Federation Job Vacancy: Head of Creative Careers

Overview of Role

This important, senior role presents a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference both to the UK’s creative industries and the lives of thousands of young people across the country.

Together with our partners, Creative & Cultural Skills and ScreenSkills, the Head of Creative Careers will be responsible for delivering the new Creative Careers Programme - an industry-led, government-supported initiative that will see leading figures working with schools and colleges to raise awareness of employment opportunities across the creative economy.

Through the Programme, around 2 million young people will be able to access better advice about pursuing a creative career, and brands such as Burberry, Penguin Random House, and the Design Museum will be at the forefront of engaging with over 160,000 students within the next year.

The appointed candidate will work closely with a diverse range of creative organisations, businesses and individuals across the country, mobilising, spotlighting, and supporting them in their engagement with young people and schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with our partners, Creative & Cultural Skills and ScreenSkills, to deliver the Creative Careers Programme and ensure its success against key performance indicators agreed with government

  • Manage the Programme’s budget, resources, and staff, ensuring that objectives are delivered on time and within the allocated funding

  • Lead and manage a small team, making most effective use of their time and talents, and investing in their personal development

  • Unlock, extend, and oversee the value in-kind commitments made by creative businesses, organisations, and individuals across the sector

  • Inspire and motivate creative organisations, businesses, and individuals from across the sector to get involved in, contribute to and advocate for the Programme

  • Spotlight the many existing successful initiatives across the creative industries that align with the aims of the Programme, and scope opportunities for engagement

  • Report regularly to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on the delivery of KPIs against budgets

  • Work alongside the Chief Operating Officer to ensure tight financial reporting and value for money on all spend

  • Develop and deliver updates and presentations for key stakeholders, including industry and government

  • Work with the Head of Communications and our partners on all external communications related to the Programme

  • Work with our partners to seek opportunities for the Programme’s long-term sustainability and development

 

Required Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

Essential

  • Strong project management skills, with proven experience of managing staff and resources to budget, and delivering on key objectives within a given timeframe

  • Strong leadership and diplomatic skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate and secure the commitment of both colleagues and external partners

  • Experience of working with industry and employers on significant practical initiatives

  • Experience of managing multiple and diverse stakeholders, and prioritising their needs

  • Experience of managing contracts and external suppliers

  • An understanding of the education, skills and employment landscape

  • A driven and can-do attitude, with proven experience of overcoming challenges to deliver particular outcomes

  • An excellent communicator with strong written and spoken skills

  • A passion for the creative industries

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the UK’s creative industries and the range of businesses, organisations, and individuals that make up the sector

  • A network of contacts across the creative industries

  • Experience of delivering practical initiatives that bring industry and employers together with young people

  • Experience of engaging with government and managing grant funding

  • Experience of identifying and securing long-lasting partnerships and funding

 

About the Creative Industries Federation

The Creative Industries Federation is the membership body that represents, champions and supports the UK’s creative industries.

Through our unique network of more than 1,000 member organisations, our influential policy and advocacy work and our UK-wide events programme, we bring together the many sectors that comprise our world-leading creative industries.

The Creative Careers Programme was shaped by industry for industry as part of the Creative Industries Sector Deal. It has attracted over £12m of in-kind industry investment to date, and £2m of government funding to get it off the ground. The appointed candidate will be joining the Federation at the outset of the Programme’s delivery, and working to the priorities of the sector at large.

Salary

£60,000 - £65,000, dependent on experience. This role is full-time, based in a central London office, but with a requirement for some travel and evening work.
