The Creative Industries Federation and Creative England are joining forces in 2020, recognising that we will be able to make a greater difference together than would be possible alone. An exciting opportunity has arisen within our newly joined company to provide maternity cover for our Head of Events.  This role is pivotal and one of the most exciting events opportunities in the creative industries. Events are at the heart of our activity and the front line of engagement with a unique network of members. You will have the opportunity to develop relationships with some of the most influential organisations and individuals working across the UK’s arts and creative sector.  

Working closely with the Chief Executive, this role shapes and executes our Events strategy.  Our events underpin membership and strategic priorities, ranging from a major conference and awards programme to regional engagement activity for stakeholders outside of London. This includes practical workshops, thought leadership roundtables as well as politically focused events.  You will also play a crucial part in managing our profile at other key external platforms during the year, and seeking and raising targeted sponsorship opportunities. 

Our Head of Events will support the wider Communications and Marketing team to ensure that our events reach and influence the audiences that they need to. 

This role is based in our London office and offers opportunities for flexible working. We are looking for someone part-time, min. 3 days per week with flexible hours available. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Key deliverables

  • Overall strategic management of a full calendar of events that offers member benefits and underpins business development and delivery needs 

  • Management and oversight of events programme delivery

  • To help develop and align the existing range of events with new business needs

  • Understand the requirements of members and stakeholders to ensure needs are met

  • Lead on the delivery of large scale events including an annual conference and awards programme working closely with the wider marketing team

  • Develop, champion and lead a commercial events strategy 

  • Work closely with the marketing team to identify, pitch and secure sponsorship opportunities and contra-deals for events 

  • Develop a positive and constructive relationship with all key stakeholders and all heads of departments

  • Work with the SMT to identify how events can further accelerate the growth of the wider organisation 

  • Set, manage and be accountable for the events budget. Ensuring value is maximised and costs are controlled

  • Be a strong advocate for the organisation and represent the company at external engagements, conference, evening events with strong networking skills

Required experience, knowledge and skills

  • Strategy and planning; strategically minded, a robust understanding of designing and building events strategies including best practice, tools, processes and opportunities

  • Budget management; experience in managing budgets effectively, reporting and setting effective strategic performance measures.

  • People Management; experience leading a team and managing change

  • Demonstrable extensive experience in a senior strategic level events role, including a track record of launching new events and growing established ones

  • Demonstrable experience of sponsorship recruitment

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience working closely across disparate teams 

  • Knowledge of creative industries desirable but not essential

CONTRACT: 3-day week, 1-year fixed term employment contract* from April 2020, flexible hours available Monday to Friday. 

SALARY: up to £33,000 (£55k FTE)
