The Federation responds to today's announcement of regional restriction tiers in England
Responding to today's announcement of regional restriction tiers in England, Caroline Norbury MBE, CEO, Creative Industries Federation, said:
"Many parts of the creative sector in Tiers 1 & 2 will be relieved to hear that they can re-open from 2nd December under the latest restrictions. Significant effort and investment has gone into making venues Covid-safe and we are pleased that venues in these areas will be able to open their doors, albeit at 50% capacity or less.
However, for those in Tier 3 areas, this will be nothing short of devastating. Christmas is a key time for many parts of the creative industries, including venues, cinemas and museums, and it is enormously sad that many weeks spent rehearsing for pantomimes, theatre shows, concerts and events may now have gone to waste. We also know that many venues in Tier 2, reliant on drinks sales, will see a huge financial hit due to the increased restrictions on alcohol sales.
Without more support, we risk losing hundreds of viable creative businesses and practitioners in Tier 3, as well as those in higher restriction areas in the devolved nations. For the sake of our country’s vibrant creative scene, an urgent UK-wide review is needed to assess what these viable organisations and practitioners need to weather these extraordinary times."
