New immigration rules from 1 January: 3 things you need to know, from My HR Hub

December 18, 2020

The pandemic has thrown this year and our priorities into disarray – but make sure you, your business and your employees are prepared for the upcoming changes to visa and immigration rules from January 1 2021.

Our partners over at My HR Hub have provided a run-down on what you need to know and do to prepare.

  1. Settled status: If you employ anyone from the EU (excluding Ireland), EEA or Switzerland, make sure they have applied for and received pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settled Status scheme. The final deadline to apply is 30 June 2021. However, only those who arrived in the UK on or before 31 December 2020 will be eligible to apply.
  2. New right to work checks: From 1 January 2021 ALL hiring managers must undertake new ‘right to work’ checks – the guidance and legal checklist to complete are changing! It is essential that all hiring managers are aware of the new immigration checks they must complete in order to be legally compliant
  3. Sponsorship: Businesses wishing to hire internationally from both EU and non-EU countries will require a sponsorship licence in order to do so under the new UK immigration system. Applications are open and can be done online.

My HR Hub will also be holding a workshop on Tuesday 12 January 2021 diving into the new right to work checks employers must carry out before employing someone from EU or non-EU countries.

This workshop will be free for My HR Hub clients/those on the discounted Federation HR package, but open to all who wish to purchase a place for £99 + VAT (payable in advance). Please email hello@myhrhub.co.uk to secure your place.
