What the one-year Spending Review means for our sector
As you may have seen, the government confirmed this week that the proposed three-year Comprehensive Spending Review will be pared back to just one-year, and will be delivered by the Chancellor on Wednesday 25th November.
They have outlined that the three key areas of focus will be:
Covid-19 emergency measures and delivering a Plan for Jobs to support employment
Enhanced support for public services
Investment in infrastructure to level up the country
Now more than ever our country needs creativity and innovation as we look to not only recover, but truly commit to sustainability, spread opportunity more widely and level up the UK. You can see a 2-page summary of our Spending Review representation here, which was devised with, and informed by our members, through our Creative Coalition process earlier this year.
We are also continuing to push on greater emergency response funding for our sector- including ongoing support for freelancers, particularly those who have fallen between the gaps of government support measures, insurance for live performances and events, ensuring accessibility to new local grant schemes and overturning plans to end Tax Free Shopping at the end of this year.
Although the Spending Review has been pared back, this is still a big opportunity to achieve investment in our world-leading sector and we need your help. Here are some things you can do:
Write to your MP to ensure they’re away of our sector’s role and what we’re calling for - a template letter can be downloaded here.
Share our sector’s priorities with anyone you speak to across industry, government and parliament. Find out two-page summary here, or our full Spending Review Representation can be shared on request.
Thank you for your support and don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions.
